This is a brand new original from my 2023 collection. This is the first painting I've ever done like this and I really enjoyed it! Normally I don't paint flowers or create art in a realistic style but lately I've been inspired by slowing down and soaking in all the beauty of God's creation simply as it is. I realize there's a joyful simplicity in painting what is perfect beauty and that I can let go of my usual inclination to add-to or exaggerate an image. I can just honor the flower for what it is and that can also be a good reminder to simply honor who each person is in their uniqueness, including ourselves. This flower is a Dahlia and one of the things I read about these flowers is that in Victorian times it would represent 'grace under pressure' and I really love that meaning!
